The Shark Attack

On October 31, 2003, when Bethany was 13 years old, she went for a morning surf along Tunnels Beach in Kauai with her best friend and her friend’s family. While lying on her surfboard, a 14-foot tiger shark attacked her, severing her left arm just below the shoulder. Despite losing over 60% of her blood and undergoing several surgeries, Bethany’s spirit remained unbroken.

Recovery and Determination

Remarkably, Bethany was back in the water just one month after the attack. Learning to surf with one arm was an immense challenge, but her determination and love for the sport drove her to adapt quickly.
