Ingredients:

  • Water for boiling

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Sweet Potato and Apple:

    • Wash, peel, and dice the sweet potato into small cubes.
    • Peel, core, and dice the apple into small pieces.
  2. Steam or Boil:

    • You have the option to either steam or boil the sweet potato and apple. Steaming helps retain more nutrients, but boiling is quicker.
    • To steam: Place the sweet potato and apple pieces in a steamer basket over boiling water. Cover and steam for about 10-15 minutes or until they are tender and easily pierced with a fork.
    • To boil: Place the sweet potato and apple pieces in a pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10-15 minutes or until they are soft.
  3. Puree:

    • Once the sweet potato and apple are cooked, transfer them to a blender or food processor.
    • Add a small amount of the cooking liquid or plain water to achieve the desired consistency.
    • Blend until smooth and creamy. You may need to scrape down the sides of the blender or food processor and blend again to ensure there are no lumps.
  4. Serve or Store:

    • Allow the puree to cool before serving it to your baby.
    • You can store any leftovers in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze them in ice cube trays for longer storage. Thaw frozen puree cubes in the refrigerator overnight before reheating and serving.

Tips:

  • For added flavor and nutrition, you can sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg into the puree.
  • If your baby is just starting solids, you may want to start with a smoother consistency and gradually increase the texture as they become more accustomed to eating.
